Search Engine Optimization Tiers And Marketing Options

TIER 1

Basic Website Optimization

Search engines expect some very basic things at the very least, but so many sites fail at the basics. Tier 1 is designed to properly prepare your site for search engines and give you a report on how your site is doing on a monthly or quarterly basis.  Here are some of the things we'll do to prepare your website for search engine inclusion:

  • Create and submit a site map file to the major search engines.  Having a site map file on your website helps search engines to efficiently discover the pages on your website therefore increasing the number of pages indexed during a scan.  Site map files also assist the search engines in determining which pages on your website are important and how frequently they change.
  • Create a robot text file.  Sometimes it is necessary to block irrelevant sections of your website from being indexed by search engines to avoid diluting the relevant content.
  • Check for and correct problems that might be inadvertently hindering search engine indexing such as HTTP errors, URL's not followed, URL's that are timing out, unreachable URL's and being removed from blacklists.
  • Ensure your website is being indexed by the major search engines.

TIER 2

Agressive Search Engine Placement

Building on Tier 1, we continue by refining the current content of your site with better internal linking strategies and content reviews. Then Tier 2 gets more into the meat of the web site. We first identify the key goals of the site and set conversion goals. We then track the effectiveness of organic search results and current marketing efforts and how well they meet the sites marketing conversion goals. This is a revolving door process where we update and analyze continually until we start seeing the results that we expect. We will also spend some time consulting with the client on what sites they want to form partnerships with to increase the quality of incoming links.  We recommend that clients commit for a 6-12 month period as this is an evolving process.  Here are some of the things we'll do for your website to aggressively improve search engine rank:

  • Add marketing URLs to pages
  • Monitor goal conversion ratios
  • Examine the words and phrases visitors use to find your website
  • Ensure keywords are used in quality, unique and relevant content
  • Keyword density and positioning review
  • Create engaging headlines that are easy to read, simple and as direct as possible
  • Tweak and improve site with clear, concise content that focuses on the basics
  • Optimize website navigational structure to maximize goal conversion
  • Personalize website text and make graphics as attractive as possible
  • Improve the TITLE, image ALT and DESCRIPTION tags and ensure they are accurate and descriptive
  • Cross-link with relevant high quality websites.  A link that comes from an external high quality website to your website will increase the page rank of your website's pages.
  • Monitor and improve visitor conversion
  • Setup goals and follow user navigation to find out where and when in their visit they choose to leave your site and why
  • Adjust site to minimize bounce rates and short visits
  • Qualitative measurements for online, mail or email campaigns (depth of visit, length of visit, visitor loyalty)
  • Gauge overall website performance

TIER 3

Online Website Marketing And Advertising

Tier 3 should be considered an add-on service to Tier 2 instead of a stand alone service. Although customers can leapfrog directly to these strategies it is important to also be doing the things in Tier 2 as well.  The easiest thing to do is to buy advertising in the form of Google Adwords and Banner Ads if applicable, so we agree on a budget for online advertising. It is important to understand that over time the high cost items like buying advertising could eventually be reduced as organic search results rise and the web site becomes more popular and paying for traffic becomes less necessary. Spending a significant amount of time looking and forming partners for link exchange is also important and encourages search engines to take your site more seriously.

If appropriate other options may also include:

  • Setting up a lens on squidoo.com
  • Setting up a blog that speaks relevantly about your products and services
  • If the marketing budget allows, we may also want to set up pages on myspaces.com and facebook.com
  • Find relevant link exchange partnerships

All these strategies are designed to draw visitors in from multiple points of contact instead of relying on the search engines alone. All these items also have the added benefit of boosting your search engine rank.  We recommend that the initial contract span over 12 to 16 months and at that point re-evaluate the program to see if additional time is required and/or results are making sense from a return on investment stand point.  Setting up alternate pages on the internet like blogs are large time commitments and sometimes the client might want to assist in these items to help cushion the budget and provide insight and passion around the product being promoted.  To advertise your website on Google's search network we will:

  • Research, select and implement most effective Google Adwords
  • Analyze keyword competition, popularity and expected ad position
  • Analyze global search volume trends (seasonal, annual traffic fluctuations, etc.)
  • Research possible negative keywords (words that aren’t relevant or specific to your business) that are impacting your site
  • Target specific languages and geographic locations
  • Cost-per-click benchmarking
  • Cost-per-click ROI
  • Review custom landing pages for particular Adwords to minimize bounce rate
  • Provide ongoing analysis data (goals reached, funnel dropouts, e-commerce transaction tracking, etc.)

Adword Analysis

  • Adword keyword ROI analysis
  • Visitor conversion analysis
